About the GGINZ
The Glass and Glazing Institute of New Zealand, commonly referred to as the GGINZ, is the centre of excellence for glass industry training. It specialises in equipping glass and glazing workers with industry skills and knowledge to be successfull. Annually the GGINZ delivers high quality training and formative assessments to over 250 apprentices. Also delivered is a short Window & Glass Association 3-day course in balustrade training for those in the industry that are keen to upskill through professional development.
The modern “state of the art” premises is designed to simulate virtual situations with practical applications and theory based learning using the most modern equipment and current best practises. For apprentices informative and constructive feedback is provided by the GGINZ to employers and BCITO Training Advisors. This feedback through a formal reporting system facilitates a supported learning environment for the betterment of the learners as they work to become a qualified tradesperson in the glass industry.
Tutors at the GGINZ are fully qualified holding their National Certificate in Glazing, New Zealand Certificate in Adult Teaching and Learning, Site Safe Certificate, current First Aid Certificate and involvement in industry groups that support current knowledge and skills. Our tutors take pride in providing a first-class training experience and go the extra mile to help learners succeed.
General Manager at the GGINZ has been working with the tertiary education and glass sector for over 20 years. This knowledge and experience is put to full use to ensure the glass centre of excellence is operating for the betterment of the industry
Accommodation Administrator is a dedicated person to arrange the homestay options for those attending a course at the GGINZ.
The GGINZ is located at 3 Cedric Place, Plimmerton, Porirua 1 minute from SH1 and a 5 minute walk from Plimmerton railway station. There is close free parking near the campus with several food / café outlets nearby. The GGINZ offers a cost effective Home Stay option that provides breakfast and a healthy evening meal – perfect for learners who are required to undertake evening study.
